Check Your Voter Registration2026-06-10T13:26:12-04:00

Before every election, it’s important to make sure your voter registration information is accurate and up to date, including your name, address, and party affiliation.

You can easily verify your registration status using the North Carolina Voter Search Tool. Find Your Election Day Polling Place2026-06-10T13:33:14-04:00

Knowing where to vote is an important step in being election-ready. You can easily find your assigned polling place using the North Carolina Election Day Polling Place Search Tool.

Enter your name to view your voter record, which includes your precinct, polling location, and sample ballot for the upcoming election. Polling places are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, and voters who are in line by closing time will still be allowed to cast their ballots.

Voter Photo ID Requirements2026-06-10T13:52:01-04:00

North Carolina law requires all voters to present an acceptable photo ID when voting in person or by mail. For residents who don’t have a current ID, such as a driver’s license, the Cabarrus County Board of Elections offers a free voter photo ID.

If you forget your ID on Election Day, you will not be turned away; you can still vote. You’ll need to show a valid photo ID to the Board of Elections before results are finalized during the official vote canvass held after Election Day.

Voters who are unable to obtain or use a photo ID due to special circumstances can also vote by completing a form explaining the reason. Once approved, your vote will be counted just like any other ballot.

Find Your Sample Ballot2026-06-10T13:58:21-04:00

Before heading to the polls, review your sample ballot to see all the races and candidates that will appear when you vote.

You can easily access your personalized sample ballot using the North Carolina Voter Search Tool. To view your personal sample ballot, enter your first name and last name, and submit. After clicking on your voter record, scroll down to “Your Sample Ballot” to find a PDF copy of your ballot based on your address.

Early Voting Information2026-06-10T14:22:04-04:00

Early voting gives registered voters the flexibility to cast their ballot before Election Day at any open early voting site in the county. Unlike Election Day, when you must vote at your assigned precinct, early voting sites are open to all voters and include every ballot style for the election.

During the early voting period, eligible residents can also register and vote on the same day by providing valid proof of name and current address. You may also update your name or address when you check in to vote.

All voters must present an acceptable photo ID when voting early, just as they would on Election Day.

Accessible Ballots & Polling Places2026-06-10T14:31:32-04:00

Federal and state laws ensure that all early voting sites and Election Day polling places in North Carolina are accessible to voters with disabilities.

Each location provides accessible entrances, parking, and voting stations designed to allow every voter to cast a ballot privately and independently.

Accessible voting equipment is available at every polling place, including audio ballots, touchscreen interfaces, and large-print options. Voters who need assistance marking or casting their ballot may bring someone to assist them or request assistance from a trained election official.

To learn more about accessible voting options, equipment, and assistance, visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections voter accessibility page.

Provisional Ballots2026-06-10T14:39:04-04:00

A provisional ballot is used when there are questions about a voter’s eligibility, such as their qualification to vote, their eligibility to vote in a specific election, or whether they’re entitled to a particular ballot style. It is also issued when a voter does not or cannot present an acceptable photo ID at the polling place.

Provisional ballots ensure that every voter has an opportunity to cast a ballot, even if eligibility questions arise. After Election Day, the Cabarrus County Board of Elections reviews each provisional ballot to confirm the voter’s eligibility. Once verified, the ballot is counted. This process protects both the voter’s rights and the integrity of the election.

Absentee Voting by Mail2026-06-10T14:45:39-04:00

In North Carolina, any registered voter can vote by mail; no special reason or excuse is required. You can request an absentee ballot online and track its status from the time it’s sent until the county board of elections receives it.

To complete your mail‑in ballot, you’ll need either two witnesses to sign your ballot envelope or a notary public’s stamp. Voters must also include a valid photo ID, just as required when voting in person. If you do not have or cannot use a photo ID due to a special circumstance, you may complete a form explaining your situation, and your ballot will still be counted once approved.

Military and Overseas Voter Services2026-06-10T14:56:10-04:00

If you’re a military service member, a spouse or dependent of one, or a U.S. citizen living abroad, you can register to vote and request an absentee ballot using the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). Both must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the day before Election Day to count for the upcoming election.

Any FPCA received by this deadline serves as both your voter registration and absentee ballot request and will be promptly processed so your ballot can be issued. Applications received after 5:00 p.m. the day before Election Day are considered too late for that election.

For eligible UOCAVA voters (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act), the secure online ballot return portal remains open until 7:30 p.m. on Election Day for the submission of completed ballots.
